A Hong Kong backpacker has been charged with causing the death of two fathers in Queensland Australia, in what has been described by local media as a “horror crash”.
Rachel Wong, 30, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving after her car crashed head-on with a concreting truck when she allegedly overtook another vehicle on a hill in Pine Creek, Bundaberg.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the woman and her 28-year-old passenger were running late to their jobs working on a nearby farm.
Two local fathers, Steven Maher, 41, and Mark Smith, 51, both died at the scene, while Wong and her passenger were taken to hospital with superficial injuries.
The Hong Kong native arrived at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on crutches on Monday to hear her charges.
According to New Mail, “Wong did not speak during the short proceedings, but coughed quietly and clutched her obviously injured chest before the matter began”.
The case continues.
