A police notice outside the Hong Kong Airport reporting room has gone viral for its “bad language” usage in both English and Chinese.
The picture, shared originally by netizen Anson Wong, was taken at the police reporting room at the Terminal 1 departure hall.
The notice contains multiple grammar and vocabulary mistakes in both translations.
The two messages read as follows:
警察電腦更新系絕停止使用，報案須要更多時間
(The word 系絕 is a typo of 系統, the Chinese word for “system”, with the wrong version roughly meaning “end of series”.)
Police Computer was suspension, Police need more time to report the case.

Civic Party lawmaker Claudia Mo posted a corrected English version on her Facebook page:
“Our computer system is suspended for updating. Crime reporting may take longer than usual,” adding in her caption, “The Chinese version is equally messy”.
Weird. Maybe Hong Kong police aren’t employed by virtue of their intelligence after all.
