Coconauts looking to go abroad this year should probably make arrangements sooner rather than later. On top of accommodation, insurance, and flight costs, it seems even the bloomin’ airport will now be imposing its own fees… but only beginning in August.
In a statement released yesterday, the Airport Authority announced that it would start charging passengers an “airport construction fee” (ACF) to recoup the construction costs from the third runway.
All tickets issued on or after Aug. 1 will incur the ACF, and the collection period will stay in effect until “all borrowings” related to the third runway have been fully repaid.
The fee for each passenger will vary based on flight distance, ticket class, and whether the passenger is departing from Hong Kong, making a transfer, or transiting through Hong Kong International Airport.
Here’s the price breakdown, as stated by the Airport Authority:
Origin-Destination passengers (a.k.a. passengers departing Hong Kong)
Long-haul: HKD180 per first/business class passenger, HKD160 per economy class passenger
Short-haul: HKD160 per first/business class passenger, HKD90 per economy class passenger
Transit/Transfer passengers
Long-haul: HKD180 per first/business class passenger, HKD160 per economy class passenger
Short-haul: HKD160 per first/business class passenger, HKD70 per economy class passenger
