Hong Kong airport breaks own record for number of flights in one day

The Hong Kong International Airport handled 1,178 flights on Saturday, setting a new record for the number of flights in one day and exceeding the average daily number of flights for 2014 by almost 10 percent.

The previous record of 1,172 flights was set on Mar. 29, 2013.

The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) says the increase can be attributed to the busy holiday season (duh), and extra flights added to popular destinations across Asia, with Taipei, Seoul and Bangkok being the top three.

A CAD spokesman said:  “The CAD’s Air Traffic Management Division has deployed additional staff to cater for the seasonal demand and is always committed to ensuring safe and efficient air traffic service to the travelling public.”
