In an effort to curb shortages of nurses in local hospitals, The University of Hong Kong is planning to relax the prerequisite requirements for nursing programmes – allowing students with non-science backgrounds admission.
Students who achieve good results in four core subjects – Chinese, English, mathematics and liberal studies, along with any two electives are now eligible.
The new policy hopes to attract a wider pool of talent into the nursing industry, afterall being a good nurse is not all about knowing the science and medicine, but knowing how to communicate and care for the patient too.
