HKU council member’s questionable ‘dive’ inspires flurry of memes

A questionable “dive” of an Hong Kong University council member has attracted much online ridicule – and creativity as the viral footage has inspired an eclectic array of memes.

Some 50 students stormed into HKU Council’s meeting on Tuesday night following a decision to curb the appointment of a new vice chancellor who is supportive of the pro-democracy movement.

Council member Lo Chung-mau fell down during the commotion, claiming he was hit in the knee. Images and videos circulated online show Lo lying on the ground clutching his knee despite there appearing to be little or no contact, according to Asian Correspondent.

The video below shows the incident:

The scene attracted criticism almost instantly as netizens called out Lo for “faking” his injury, and online memes began to fly in.

As we might have guessed, the doctor wasn’t entirely pleased with his instant fame, and said it was “the biggest insult” to say he “dived”, as he told Apple Daily. His excuse – before calling the police – was that he had a previous knee injury and that he lost his balance.

But that didn’t stop the flow, and even local celebrity Hins Cheung joined in:
