A Hong Kong Baptist University student is in critical condition after she was struck by a lorry yesterday while taking a midnight jog.
The 18-year-old second year student, surnamed Lau, was reportedly running back to her dormitory at around 1am yesterday when she was hit by a 16-tonne lorry on Waterloo Road.
Lau was hurled several metres away by impact, Ming Pao reports. She sustained serious injuries to her head and was taken to hospital in critical condition. Lau’s earphones were found at the scene of the accident.
The lorry driver, a 45-year-old man surnamed Wong, was arrested for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and released on bail. He passed a breathalyser test and reportedly claimed that the traffic light was green at the time of the incident.
