HK$1,700 a night for a love hotel on Christmas Eve

Looks like lovers this Christmas may have been sorely disappointed.

Reporters discovered that shortly after midnight on Christmas Eve, well-known hourly hotels in the Kowloon district were all fully booked.

Rooms for rent at love hotels costed as much as HK$1,700 a night on Christmas Eve, scaring away would-be lovers. Most hourly rooms were quoted at well over HK$1,000 a night.

Most of the customers frequenting love hotels on Christmas seem to be couples in their 30s and 40s, with some in their 20s.

With the influx of mainland tourists, even demand for rooms at love hotels have exploded and caused the price rise.
