A Hong Kong resident is one out of six people identified dead in a fatal ferry accident in Thailand yesterday.
The ferry capsized and sank near a popular seaside town when it was overcrowded. Three Thais and two Russians were among the dead, and 26 were injured including a tourist from Hong Kong and Guangdong. The other 200 on-board were rescued.
According to the RTHK, Police officers claim that shortly after the ferry departed Koh Larn island in the evening, for a 30-minute trip to the resort town of Pattaya, the ferry experienced an engine problem. Passengers panicked and all rushed to the second floor, causing the ferry to roll on its side and sink.
