HK ranked 16th for rule of law, but rock bottom for fundamental rights

According to a US-based independent research, Hong Kong is three places ahead of the United States for its rule of law, assessed through 44 indicators under eight themes such as absence of corruption, open government, order and security, fundamental rights, and more. Not surprisingly, Hong Kong’s best ranking was for providing order and security and lowest for guaranteeing fundamental rights — such as enforcing equal protection and freedom of expression. Denmark came top for rule of law, followed by Norway and Sweden. Singapore, ranked at 10th, beat us in all categories except open-government.
