HK Olympics chief: Olympic skater didn’t need a team doctor

Winter Olympian Barton Lui Pan-to had previously complained to the media that local Olympic officials refused his request for a team doctor, causing his disappointing performance at the Winter Games in Sochi.

Hong Kong Olympic Committee official Pang Chung has now commented on the controversy saying that he was surprised at Lui’s complaints.

Pang claims that Lui was medically examined before he left to Sochi according to general procedure, so he was in good shape for the games otherwise he would not have been sent to Sochi. He also confirmed that there was indeed no more room in the seven-strong Hong Kong delegation. Pang also reiterated that the committee felt the medical facilities at the athlete’s village were good enough. The committee were also very accommodating to Lui, helping his parents buy tickets to watch him compete.
