HK Airport shows off its new showers, promises better Wi-Fi

Have you had a flight from Hong Kong recently ruined because the passenger next to you stinks? Well, next time, tell them there’s no excuse.

Hong Kong International Airport now has free showers, as part of recent upgrades it’s been plugging this week.

The upgrades — which  include faster WiFi —  were yesterday showed off to the press.

Many, though, weren’t blown away, as write-ups in the SCMP and by RTHK make clear.

It was noted that the “piecemeal” upgrades were somewhat lackluster in comparison to multi-million dollar overhauls at other regional airports.

Hong Kong’s International Airport — which moved to Chek Lap Kok in July 1998 — ranks fifth in the Skytrax World Airport Awards last year.

Singapore’s Changi Airport took out top spot, followed by Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, and Munich Airport in Germany.

Hong Kong, though, came in first for “dining experience.”

Located on the arrivals floor, its new showers, comprising 10 cubicles open 24 hours, were officially opened in September and are used on average by 100 people each day.

The airport also plans to expand its high speed WiFi coverage— which offers downloads at 400 megabytes per second — from the current three locations to 11 areas by the end of the month.
