Three students from YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College in Tung Chung were arrested on Monday on the suspicion of trafficking marijuana during the school’s sports day.
The suspects, a 15-year-old British boy, his 16-year-old sister and a 17-year-old Croatian girl, allegedly sold “hash brownies” and “weed cupcakes” for HKD30-40 apiece at the Tsing Yi Sports Ground in the New Territories.
It is believed that they advertised the drugged cakes via Facebook and other forms of social media.
The trio has been accused of selling roughly 10 pieces of drug-laced goodies to schoolmates, who are thought to have been briefed about their “special qualities”. The police are attempting to contact the buyers for questioning. A further 27 pieces of baked goods have been seized.
A police source revealed to the SCMP’s Young Post that the British girl made the cakes at home by herself, probably by following a recipe off the internet. The police have reportedly searched the girl’s home but found no illegal drugs. However, an oven and baking powder have been confiscated.
The three students have now been released on bail.
Speaking to Coconuts HK, another YMCA student said she was shocked at the news, adding that such illegal behaviour is uncommon at the school.
The police are now on the hunt for a South Asian man between the ages of 20 and 30 who is thought to have sold roughly 10 grams of pot to the 16-year-old British girl in Admiralty.
Maybe the school should rename its sports day to “sports daze”. Just a thought.
