Alibaba chairman Jack Ma has just bought Hong Kong’s most expensive home for HKD1.5 billion, according to reports.
Although he is yet to confirm or deny the rumours, Ma is widely expected to become the next resident of 22 Barker Road, a 9,000-square-foot mansion on the Peak with a 20,000-square-foot garden and a 270-degree view of the harbour.
Believe it or not, all that doesn’t come cheap, and it is thought Ma paid HKD151,653 per square foot, making the three-storey home one of the most expensive in the world.
The news comes despite 50-year-old Ma seeing his wealth slide 2.4 percent last week when Alibaba stock dropped 5.1 percent.
Don’t lose too much sleep on his behalf though. Ma’s still worth a casual HKD42 billion.
HKD200 to whoever TP’s his new house first.
