We get it. Mornings are tough, and you could definitely be forgiven for trying (if you’re lucky) to grab a little shut eye on the train or bus to work. But even the best planned naps of mice and men oft go awry, as evidenced by a video that went viral earlier this week.

In the 42-second video, posted to a Hong Kong Facebook group for funny videos on Wednesday, a train conductor can be heard yelling over the intercom of an empty train — apparently to a passenger, who can’t be seen in the video — to wake up.

The video was filmed at North Point MTR station, the terminal station for the Tseung Kwan O line (obviously by someone who couldn’t figure out if he wanted to film in portrait or landscape).

The train driver can be heard yelling over the intercom: “It’s still really early, don’t go to sleep. It’s only 10:30am, don’t go to sleep.”

As the PA announcement in the station tells passengers to stand back from the platform as the train is about to depart, the exasperated train driver ratchets up his admonishments considerably, calling: “Heyyy! Heeyyyyy! HEEYYYYY! Good morning! Hey! Get up! It’s time to go! You’re late! Get up!”

But as the familiar beeping sound indicating that the train is about to leave the platform begins, no one can be seen getting off the train.

The short video has been shared more than 3,300 times since it was posted on Facebook on Wednesday, and more than 4,800 people have “reacted” to it.

One netizen, confused by the unseen mystery passenger, asked, “Did the train driver see a ghost?”

Others joked that audio of the train driver could be a morning alarm, tagging friends with comments like, “We should use this to wake up our daughter!”

Apple Daily even put together a fun video suggesting scenarios where the audio could be used, including to wake up miserable men taking naps in IKEA, or lawmakers grabbing some sneaky shut-eye at the Legislative Council.
