Woah! A 24-year-old Indonesian helper hid her pregnancy from her employer for nine months and then gave birth to a baby boy in her bedroom. The male employer was woken up in the middle of the night by a baby crying, and when he went to the helper’s room and inquired outside the door, the helper tried to convince her employer, who has a one-year-old boy, that it was his son crying.
When he pleaded with his helper to open the door, he discovered a newborn baby on the bed, and was shocked and stunned. He called the police for help and both mother and son were taken into the hospital. Although both of them are fine, the helper is terrified that she will lose her job. The employers apparently noticed her ballooning stomach but when they asked about it, the helper made excuses.
Apparently this is not the first time a helper has given birth in an employer’s home. If a helper gets pregnant on the job, she cannot be terminated and has the right to maternity leave and medical coverage. Want to help improve the living conditions of domestic helpers?
