Government will charter flights to bring Hongkongers back from Bangkok

Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok said today if and when necessary, the government will charter flights to bring Hongkongers back from Bangkok.

The government also claims to be in close contact to the Chinese embassy in Bangkok so is updated on the situation reports the SCMP.

Currently there are about 23 tour groups (about 461 Hongkongers) in Bangkok, Pattaya and Hua Hin.

Five people have been killed since the protests erupted and political violence has worsened however, Hong Kong only raised travel warnings to red on Monday, while lawmakers and unions are questioning why a black warning (highest warning) has not been raised.

Lai said the warnings raised depend on a number of factors and how other places react to the situation and so far only Hong Kong and Taiwan have travel warning above normal.
