Government consults public on transsexual rights

As a minority group in Hong Kong, the rights of transsexuals are often neglected. The government however, is looking to promote transsexual rights by consulting the public.

The government has announced it will set up a high-level working group to tackle the issue, and Justice Secretary, Rimsky Yuen, has been appointed as the chairman of the group.

The group will deal with various issues arising from the Court of Final Appeal’s decision last July, which recognised transsexuals’ right to marry.

Unfortunately, there is no concrete timetable as to when the consultation will take place.
