Government aims to release 19,000 new flats next year

Will this solve all of our housing woes? Probably not, but it’s a start.

Finance Secretary John Tsang announced on Wednesday that the 2015-2016 Land Sale Programme comprises of 29 residential sites, including 16 new ones.

The land sale should be able to provide 16,000 units.

Another 3,000 units will be supplied from other sources.

The government will also consider getting more subsidised housing on the market by launching a scheme to provide flat owners with guaranteed loans for their premiums, making it easier for them to rent or sell.

Four of the sites will be sold for commercial use (More offices! Yay!), while one will be for hotel development (More tourists! Yay!).

The government will also move its official offices away from important business districts in order to free up spaces for companies.
