‘GOODOG’, ‘BANANA’, and ‘HOTPOT’ personalised license plates to go on auction

One of the little pleasures of living in Hong Kong is seeing the ridiculous personalised license plates adorning the city’s fancy cars, because it makes us feel better about digging for coins for the tram as their chauffeurs zip past us.

Hongkongers who wish to express their personality in eight characters or less must put down a deposit of HKD5,000 in order to have a chance to bid for their submitted license plate. The next auction for personalised vehicle registration marks is happening tomorrow, so any of these babies could be yours:

1/ MOB1LE (semi-obscure early-2000s Avril Lavigne reference?)

2/ LAUGHYOU (for the condescending but also grammatically lax)

3/ BANANA (for Minions)

4/ TOO EASY (for the boastful)

5/ GOODOG (for the Cesar Millan fans)

6/ SPARTA (for the 300 fans)

7/ TOFU (for the vegans)

8/ MUFF1N (for the Starbucks breakfast fans)

9/ WATT (for the electricians)

10/ HOTPOT (yum)

Click here for the rest of the license plates going on auction, which will occur at 9:25am at Meeting Room S221, L2, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai.

Good luck!
