A three-year-old girl was killed on Friday after she was hit and dragged for almost 200 meters by a seven-seater van in Jordan.
The incident occurred at around 8:50pm on Friday when the van was turning onto Man Wai Street from Ferry Street. The girl, who was crossing the road alone after getting separated from her family, was hit by the car.
She was dragged underneath the vehicle for almost 200 meters along Man Wai Street, Man Sing Street and Man Wui Street. According to Apple Daily, Lau had not realized that he hit the child until pedestrians ran up to his car and told him to stop.
The girl was pulled out from under the vehicle by firefighters and rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:17pm.
It was understood that the girl became separated from her father shortly before the crash. The devastated man, who gave his name to reporters as Krishna, said his daughter wandered away while he was helping his toddler son stand up after he tripped.
Krishna told reporters that he was still looking for his little girl when he heard the sound of an ambulance, about six minutes after she disappeared.
Surveillance footage from a restaurant on Man Wai Street shows the car passing by slowly with the girl trapped underneath it.
The van driver, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. Preliminary investigations show that the incident did not involve drunk driving or speeding. Anyone who witnessed the fatal crash is urged to call investigating police officers at 3661 9000 or 3661 9062.
