At 1am this morning, the organisers of Occupy Central formally announced the start of the sit-in and their two official requests: that the governemnt overturn Beijing’s decision regarding the 2017 Chief Executive election and restart the political reform process.
The organisers of Occupy Central decided to start the sit-in earlier than the original Oct. 1 date due to the escalation of tension that has arisen during the two-day student occupation of Tim Mei Road in front of the Central Government Complex in Admiralty.
Occupy Central will be an extension of the current student sit-in, with the current location being a “starting point” for the protest. Occupy Admiralty doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!
In a statement, the organisers said: “We reiterate we will stand firm in our belief in peace and non-violence. We urge Hong Kong people to respond to the call of history, to stand up and have the courage to be a real Hong Kong citizen.”
