Protesters are planning to gather again this Sunday in the border area of Sheung Shui to object to parallel traders and their illegal shopping activities.
The North District Parallel Imports Concern Group created an event on their Facebook page urging people to join the rally, claiming the government has done nothing to reduce the illegal export trade.
According to the Facebook event, more than 200 people said they were attending Sunday’s rally.
The protest will be the fifth this year following four demonstrations targeting mainland traders who protesters say abuse their entry visa by purchasing items to re-sell back over the border.
The parallel trade has caused a shortage of household goods and increased rent fees in the contested areas.
Similar protests have broken out in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, and Sha Tin, with police using pepper sprays and making arrests in some cases, reports the SCMP.
In the most recent protest in Tuen Mun, a mainland mother and her young daughter were the subject of jeers and shouts when protesters suspected her of being a parallel trader and demanded she open her suitcase, which turned out to be full of books. The group apologised for their actions.
The group is still asking for police permission to hold the rally.
