Gang of robbers beat up Hong Kong 7-Eleven clerk for small change and cigarettes

A trio of robbers beat up a 7-Eleven worker before snatching HKD3,300 and cigarettes from the store in Yuen Long at around 3am on Sunday, it has been reported.

The gang, aged between 27 and 39, were clad in hoodies and masks, Apple Daily reports (as translated by EJI).

One of the men reportedly stood guard outside while the other two pretended to buy cigarettes. The duo then appeared to spray an unidentified orange powder into the cashier’s eyes, before beating him up for around 80 seconds.

The whole incident was recorded by the store’s closed-circuit cameras.

The clerk, surnamed Li, alerted police before heading to hospital for treatment for head and eye injuries.

The fuzz then flagged down and arrested the trio of suspects just 600 metres from the 7-Eleven outlet at Town Park Road North. At least they can’t get done for leaving the scene of a crime.

The store’s owner said that she recognised the gang, who are reportedly of South Asian ethnicity, as they had visited the store before.
