Former chief executive: ‘What’s your last name, Mr. Chan?’

It’s a brainfart that could happen to any of us, but when you’re a politician in the spotlight who’s already known for making gaffes, it’s extra funny.

Apple Daily reports that Tung Chee-Hwa, the city’s first chief executive and now a high-profile pro-Beijing proselytizer, asked a journalist, “What’s your last name, Mr. Chan?”

Tung, 77, is certainly not helping is own cause: his nickname has already been “Lo Mung Tung”, or “old senile Tung” for years.

At the same press conference, which took place yesterday, Tung also compared Hong Kong’s right to vote to the plight of the suffragettes and the civil rights movement in the US.
