Donald Tsang, the bowtie-wearing former Chief Executive of Hong Kong, has been sentenced to 20 months in jail today for misconduct while in public office.

During sentencing at the High Court this morning, Judge Andrew Chan said that Tsang, as Chief Executive, had violated the trust of both the people of Hong Kong and the central government, Ming Pao reports.

Starting with a sentence of 30 months, the judge reduced the term by 10 months in light of Tsang’s “contributions to Hong Kong” and the dozens of positive character testimonies from his peers.

Last Friday, a jury of eight women and one man found Tsang, guilty on one count of misconduct in public office. He was acquitted of another count of the same charge, and no verdict was reached on a third charge of accepting an advantage as chief executive.

A retrial for the third charge has been scheduled for September.
