Foreign man buys old cart-pusher new shoes after seeing him slip in Lan Kwai Fong

In case your heart had hardened to stone after hearing about attacks on activists, clashing protesters, and developers building tiny toilets for domestic helpers – this story might just warm your heart right up until it’s as gooey as a marshmallow.

Hong Kong Facebook users have been circulating photos that show a foreign man buying shoes for an old cart-pushing man in Lan Kwai Fong – not your usual source of family-friendly anecdotes.

The photos, posted by one of the store’s employees, were taken on Sunday, reports Bastille Post.

The foreigner had seen the old man – who pushes the cart through the same street every day – slip and hurt his head, an accident that could apparently have been avoided had he been wearing well-fitting shoes.

The foreigner, who works in the area, first offered to give the old man money to buy new shoes, but he declined the cash. So the Good Samaritan immediately took him to the closest shoe store and bought him a brand new pair.

As if the story could get any cuter, the store staff decided to pitch in by giving them a staff discount. (Who’s cutting onions in here?!)

Netizens praised the foreigner for his kindness, saying that “good acts are well rewarded”, and lauded the old man for his independence and work ethic.
