Flying fish in Stanley? What’s going on?

Imagine a whole school of fish flying out of the water and heading straight towards you as you innocently enjoy the soothing sound of crashing waves. Sounds like a terrifying scene from a pirahna horror movie, doesnt it? There’s no way something like that could ever happen in real life, right?

Meet Mr. Chui, who filmed exactly that while watching anglers with a friend at St. Stephen’s Beach, Stanley as reported by Apple Daily. The video was taken at around 4pm on Sunday, June 7.

The whole ordeal lasted for half an hour with reportedly tens of thousands of fish flying out of the water and into the rocks. A similar event took place in July 2013 when thousands of fish washed up near the Central piers.

Explanations pushed forward by news media suggest that the reason for this occurence can be anything from a natural phenomenon to the loud engines of nearby ships. Afterwards Chui said he attempted to place the fish back into the water with his friend but there were simply too many.

If there’s anything the experts have agreed on, it’s that there are no supernatural powers in play. So rest easy, and don’t feel the need to stay away from the water.
