Up In Flames: Police believe pyromaniacs caused underground explosion that damaged four cars in Kwai Chung

Yesterday at 3am, an explosion rocked Shek Tau Street in Kwai Chung. A “forty-foot dragon” of ball of fire, as Apple Daily describes it, engulfed four cars, charring them slightly (Michael Bay would be disappointed). The explosion, originating from the draining pipes below, was so strong that a manhole cover broke while three others were blown off.

Firefighters quickly arrived to the scene. Investigators first suspected that an underground gas leak had caused the explosion, but soon realised that this was no accident. They believe that a pyromaniac (or a group of them) poured paint thinner down the drain then dropped a lit piece of paper towel through the drain cover. People are clearly way too bored for their own good.

They haven’t had any luck catching the suspects yet, but let’s hope they’re given a slap on the wrist before it tickles their fancy to do something like this again.
