Tomorrow the Hong Kong and China flags at the Central Government Offices and the chief executive’s house will be flown at half-mast to mourn former Beijing official Qiao Shi.
Qiao was the chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the number-three position in the government, from 1993 to 1998. He died from illness in Beijing on June 14 at the age of 91.
He is to be cremated tomorrow.
A government press release said that the flags would be flown at half-mast “on the advice of the Central Government”.
