Yesterday morning residents of Ap Lei Chau noticed a rather large snake minding its own business in a grassy area.
The police arrived, but probably because of the commotion, the serpent climbed to the top of a 10-metre-high tree, reports Bastille Post.
The snake turned out to be a three-metre-long, 30-kilo, approximately 20-year-old, Burmese python.
For safety reasons (but let’s be honest, that python was probably at more risk of danger from humans than the other way around), the snake had to be captured.
After some discussion, the police decided that climbing the tree would be too dangerous, so they called the much more capable firefighters to help them out.
But even their ladders weren’t long enough to reach the python. In the end, they had three firefighters stand below the tree and fire their water hoses up at the snake, knocking it to the ground.
The magnificent animal was sent to the Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden.
It is believed that because of the warmer weather, the reptiles are now out foraging, hence why beautiful snakes seem to be coming out and greeting every Hongkonger of late.
