HK01 reports that the vehicle in question was a light goods vehicle belonging to Pan Asia Pacific Aviation Services Limited (PAPA).
PAPA is a company franchised by the city’s Airport Authority to provide cleaning services, as well as aircraft ground handling and line maintenance for planes at HKIA.
A police spokesperson confirmed to Coconuts HK that they received a report that a van parked on the tarmac was on fire, and that firefighters put out the blaze in 22 minutes.
The spokesperson said that no one was injured in the incident, that the fire was believed to have been caused by the vehicle’s engine overheating, and that an investigation into the cause was ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Airport Authority told HK01 that the fire did not affect the airport’s daily operations.
