Domestic helper feared rape by employer who masturbated behind her, court hears

A Filipino domestic worker told a Hong Kong court yesterday that she feared her employer might rape her, after he repeatedly exposed his private parts in her presence. Footage of the alleged act was played in court on Tuesday.

The domestic helper, referred to as X in court, said she noticed Shek Kwok-ngai fondling his penis behind her on three separate occasions in 2014, reports the SCMP. She subsequently set up a camera in his Mong Kok home to document his behaviour.

The video showed Shek exposing his penis as he stood near the kitchen refrigerator, gazing at the camera near X all the while.

The helper revealed that she used to sit up whenever she heard voices in the night, worrying that he could enter her room and “rape her”.

Shek, 43, pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault and one of common assault between Feb. 26 and Mar. 3, 2014.

X later left her employer’s home, but Shek informed her beforehand that he suffered from depression after losing his job.

Shek apparently handed X “a small cup of tea” as a sign of apology before she left.

With the help of a social worker, X returned to the home to try and collect her belongings and money to pay her agent, but Shek’s wife allegedly threatened to give X nothing unless she deleted the video.

X claims that she then left with nothing.

Senior public prosecutor Anna Lai said that X caught sight of Shek masturbating in a TV screen reflection while she was looking after his daughter on Feb. 26. X claims that Shek didn’t stop until his daughter noticed and exclaimed “Daddy”, Oriental Daily reports.

Later that day, Shek allegedly exposed his penis again. Lai said that X spilt the soup she was carrying when she spotted his reflection in a glass cabinet.

Shek apparently touched his genitals over his clothing near X the next day.

The day after, X claims Shek breathed heavily behind her. Lai argued this amounted to common assault.

The alleged incident that was filmed occurred in March.

Shek’s barrister, Selwyn Yu SC, challenged X’s credibility in cross-examination.

The trial continues today.
