In order to cope with increasing fuel prices and rising labour costs the Transport Department has approved the fare increases for some of the ferry routes to six outlying island ferry routes.
The Central and Mui Wo route will increase its fare come June, while the other routes will raise their prices in July.
The Transport Department believes the ferry operator’s request for increasing fares is justified, given the increasing overhead costs the operators face and that their last raise was in 2011.
