It’s not often Hong Kong’s old gals get a shout out for their fashion sense, but by golly, it’s about time!
Fashion designer Simone Rocha, who was raised in Dublin but has family in Hong Kong, explains in this video how a whole collection of hers is based on her grandma’s awesome threads.
Travelling back to the territory after her granny’s passing, Rocha takes us on a tour of the button-down patterned shirts, practical three-quarter pants and comfy flats that seems to be the uniform of Hong Kong ladies of a certain age.
“They’re always very clean, there’s never a button falling off, and their hair is always done,” Rocha explains.
“There’s a real practicality. There’s very little peacocking.”
“I guess from looking at the women, and the colour and the feeling, there’s just something really poetic about the way these women dress.”
