The family of the 21-year-old man shot dead by police yesterday in Lam Tin have accused the officers of using excessive force as more details of the incident emerge.
Prior to the police intervention, the young man and his wife had an argument over her suspicions of him having an affair, which made her move out of their shared home and go stay with a female friend at Hong Nga Court, Lam Tin.
The husband went looking for his wife but ended up getting into an altercation with a security guard in the lobby of Hong Nga Court. The agitated man brandished a box cutter at the security guard who then alerted the police.
Police arrived and witnessed the man threaten his wife, who had come down to the lobby to try and calm the situation, with the box cutter, according to Apple Daily.
Fearing for the safety of the man’s wife, and because he had ignored several police warnings to calm down and stop what he was doing, the police shot him in the forehead and neck. He died instantly.
