In a three-week sting operation, customs officers have seized 1,100 bottles of fake Bioderma-brand make-up remover.
After the real company alerted the Hong Kong authorities, customs officer searched 12 retail outlets and found HKD120,000 worth of goods, according to a government press release.
Nine women and seven men, aged between 24 and 58, were arrested, and all 16 were released on bail.
Though testing has not found any harmful heavy metals like lead or mercury in the make-up remover, the Standard reports that “the effectiveness of the products in removing makeup is questionable”.
Simply terrible. Say “no” to panda eyes, people.
There may still be fake Bioderma make-up remover on the market though, so be careful. Make sure you look for two P’s and a “01” triangle recycle mark engraved on the bottom of the bottle.
