Ewww! Peas turn cooking water into neon green liquid

A Tai Po resident bought some peas from a vegetable stall at the wet market and after boiling it for five minutes, she was shocked to see that the water turned into a bright, unnatural green. It is suspected that colour additives have been added to the peas.

The 72-year-old Tai Po resident tried to wash the peas twice and boiled it again, but the water still turned bright green. She took the remaining peas to the district councillor who turned the case over to the Food Department. Experts say that it is impossible for the peas to turn cooking water into such a bright, unnatural green — usually there will be no colour to the water after cooking peas.
