At around 5pm in the afternoon yesterday, a passenger-filled escalator at the departure halls of the Macau immigration border suddenly stopped.
People on the escalator lost balance and fell backwards, causing a domino effect, injuring seven women and two men aged between 26 to 74-years-old.
Those on the escalator told The Sun that people at the top of the escalator were falling back, crushing those at the bottom.
Medical teams rushed to the scene immediately and sent those injured to the hospital. The escalator manufacturer also came investigate what caused the escalator to malfunction. The company found a shoelace and some trash in the machine which they believe caused a jam and hence the machine to stop suddenly.
