Erwiana’s former employer sobs about being ‘bullied’ in jail

The Hong Kong woman who was jailed for six years for brutally abusing Indonesian domestic worker Erwiana Sulistyaningsih has complained that she is being bullied in prison.

Law Wan-tung, 44, made the claims in a teary appearance at Hong Kong’s Court of First Instance yesterday while challenging the Legal Aid Department’s refusal to provide assistance for a judicial review.

Law said she is being verbally bullied by inmates, but complained that the authorities refuse to help her because she has not been physically attacked.

“They said they wouldn’t offer help unless I was beaten up,” she said, according to the SCMP.

Last year, the mother of two was jailed for six years for 18 charges, including assault and criminal intimidation, of two maids, most famously Erwiana. She punched the Indonesian woman in the face so hard her teeth were fractured, and twisted the metal tube of a vacuum cleaner inside her mouth.

The judge quashed Law’s bid for permission on Thursday, saying she can still apply for legal aid via an appeal judge.
