Enter the Cathay Dragon: Dragonair to be officially rebranded later this month

Dragonair will officially be renamed “Cathay Dragon” at the end of the month, parent company Swire said today.

The airline’s rebranding, which was announced at the end of January, will be effective starting Nov. 21. The carrier’s boarding passes, staff uniforms, accessories and other materials will be changed to reflect its new name, while its aircrafts will be painted with new livery featuring Cathay Pacific’s signature brushwing logo.

Both airlines will soon share a website, app, loyalty programme, customer relations department, and airport lounges.

The changes were ostensibly made to align Dragonair more closely with Swire’s flagship airline, Cathay Pacific, but we know the truth: it’s because there’s a Pokémon called Dragonair, isn’t it?
