Elderly man released after serving time for using fake I.D. to get work

Remember that frail 73-year-old man who was jailed for four months for using a fake I.D. so he could continue working as a security guard beyond retirement age?

Well, he’s been released from jail slightly early. How’s that for a victory of justice?!

Shi Kau-yan walked free on Monday, with the authorities taking out holidays from his sentence and reducing his time for good behaviour.

An elderly man with high blood pressure, a kidney problem and diabetes was hardly going to be hell-raising inside, was he?

Shi was jailed in April for using a fake I.D., which he naturally purchased in Shenzhen, to work at three separate security firms in Hong Kong past the 65 age limit for retirement.

The I.D. said Shi was eleven years younger than he is. We’re guessing he still has his own hair and teeth, lucky bugger!

According to Ming Pao Daily, Shi now plans to apply for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance but also wants to get another job so he can be self-reliant.

Lawmaker Fernando Cheung, who has been helping Shi and his wife, told the press that the 73-year-old looks healthier now than before prison.

Could this story get any more heartwarming?
