Elderly Lantau man saved from suicide attempt after neighbour checks up on him

A 73-year-old man reportedly tried to commit suicide by drinking a glass of herbicide in Sha Lo Wan on Lantau Island after he got into an argument with his children, reports Oriental Daily

At 7am today, the elderly villager, surnamed Cheung, called his neighbour, also surnamed Cheung, to say goodbye. The neighbour, unsuprisingly feeling something was wrong, went over to the old man’s house and saw that he had drunk a glass of herbicde and was now unconscious.

He called the police, and a helicopter rushed the old man to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, where he has been admitted for further observation.

The 73-year-old did not write a suicide note.

According to Oriental Daily, the product that the old man consumed contains a chemical registered as a herbicide in Hong Kong, but that is banned in some countries.
