Eight-month-old baby found dead beside father in bed

Sau Mau Ping Estate

A 27-year-old father was arrested on suspicion of negligence after an eight-month-old boy died beside him in bed at their home.

The father was later granted bail without charges as the police needs more time to investigate.

It was likely that the baby was crushed while he and his father slept in the same bed. The unconscious baby was found by his mother, 23, who returned to the family home in Sau Chi House, Sau Mau Ping Estate, at 2:45am.

Against Child Abuse director advises parents not to co-sleep with their babies, as there’s a risk of rolling over them or suffocating them by accident.
