Eeeek! Bats nest found in Shatin Park

A colony of bats were found hanging upside down on a banana tree in Shatin Park in broad daylight.

In the past week, these bats have tripled from three to 15 bats, raising concerns by residents about the potential diseases these bats are harbouring, like SARS and rabies. E

xperts say that bats can carry viral diseases that are deadly to humans, and advised residents to take caution when bats are near. There’s a chance that they will continue mating there and grow in population, and the district council is proposing measures to deal with these unwelcome visitors in their next meeting.
