Hong Kong’s tech-savvy foodies now have more app options than just Open Rice. One of them is Sugar, which offers an innovative take on the concept of urban discovery, and, most importantly, some ruddy decent discounts!
To celebrate its three month anniversary (because it’s a teenage girl), Sugar has launched “Sweet July”, whereby anyone who signs up to the app this month will receive an additional HKD300 of credit on top of the HKD50 they would normally get.
And because they’re extra awesome, Coconuts Readers can nab HKD100 on top of that with promo code “GoCoconuts”. That’s a total of HKD450 for those not in banking.
Sugar works with 150 handpicked F&B joints across Hong Kong, big and small, local and imported.
The location-based functionality lets you purchase spontaneously or plan ahead by buying discounted items in advance. Here’s how it works:
Find something you want to put in your face from the app’s main page and click on the green “skimming” button to see the price reduced. If you’re really thrifty and don’t mind spamming your mates, you can reduce the price further by sharing it on WhatsApp, Facebook and WeChat.
Once you’ve purchased the item, you can then redeem it within seven days simply by showing your phone voucher to a baffled waiter.
And if that’s not enough free stuff for you, keep an eye on Sugar’s Facebook and Instagram (@sugar_hongkong) to find out where exactly in Causeway Bay and Mong Kok you can grab some free gifts on Saturday.
Sounds pretty sweet to us.
The app is available on iOS and Android and can be downloaded here.
