A 58-year-old dump truck driver died this morning after apparently being buried under mud at a Hong Kong landfill site.
Police were called to the Southeast New Territories landfill on Wan Po Road, Tseung Kwan O, shortly after 10am.
Initial investigations suggest the driver, Tang Sai-chuen, was standing behind his truck while unloading mud when the incident occurred. “He had lost consciousness while being freed by firefighters,” a police spokeswoman told the SCMP.
Despite firefighters digging Tang out and paramedics providing medical assistance at the scene, he was certified dead less than half an hour later at Tseung Kwan O Hospital.
The incident is under investigation by police and has been reported to the Labour Department.
