Dude made a mess.
A 28-year-old German tourist flooded four elevators in an apartment block in Wan Chai in the early hours of this morning after breaking into the building, triggering the fire alarm, and then turning on the faucet for a fire hose.
He was, according to Apple Daily, drunk.
The whole unfortunate incident occurred about 1am, at the Star Crest apartment complex on Star Street.
About that time, four security security guards at the building heard the fire alarm sound and, as they investigated, spotted the man running down the staircase, looking suspicious — as one does in those circumstances.
The four men gave chase and intercepted the German man on Queen’s Road East, they noticed he smelled a little boozy and, upon walking him back to the building, quickly discovered water was spilling out into the basement and running into the elevators, which were raised as the water was shut off.
An inspection of CCTV footage showed the man had turned on a faucet meant to connect to a fire hose after entering the building via a fire exit in the car park and tripping the alarm.
It’s not clear whether he was drunkenly trying to deal with a non-existent emergency that his tripping of the alarm may have suggested, or if he just turned on the water for the hell of it.
What is known is police don’t smile on such antics. Officers arrested the man on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
