With so much awesome drone-captured footage of Hong Kong floating around the web, it’s easy to forget that using one of these bad boys can get you into trouble.
Three men were arrested for allegedly using drones to film the Formula E races in Central on Sunday.
The three, two of whom aged 28 and 40, were caught by the police on Lung Wo Road in the afternoon after their drones were each found flying over the racetracks, reports Oriental Daily.
Said to have broken an order on air navigation under Hong Kong law, they were arrested. They were found to have “severely endangered public safety”, the paper said.
As of press time, the three are on bail.
Under the Civil Aviation Ordinance, unmanned aircraft systems under 7kg, excluding fuel, do not require special licenses. There are stringent guidelines around flying them, however — they can only operate under 300 feet, for example.
Unmanned aircraft systems are also entirely banned in and around the airport, including areas like the northern coast of Lantau and Tsing Yi Island.
