The United Christian Hospital has revealed that one of their doctors was really, really bad at his job. He was found to have written more than 100 wrong pathology reports in the nine months leading to May of this year after the government inspected 2,153 of his reports in total.
His job was to look at tissue samples and cells taken from patients for any abnormalities. Apparently his inaccurate pathology reports led to 17 incorrect diagnoses, while in one case he failed to detect a patient’s cancerous cells, reports the Standard. Wow. What a horrible situation: “Good news! You don’t have cancer! Wait, just kidding!”
The hospital stated that all of the pathologist’s errors have since been corrected, and that the affected patients have been informed. They also said that no patients received treatment that they didn’t need and that the deaths of three of the involved patients had nothing to do with his mistakes. The government, on the other hand, stated that the updated reports led to slightly revised treatment plans for 15 patients and significant revisions for two patients.
United Christian Hospital said that they’d establish a third party panel to conduct an investigation over the next two months. The pathologist is currently on leave.
